Even better than the first one I read. Apparently she also wrote [b:Fancy Nancy|426625|Fancy Nancy|Jane O'Connor|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1376473636s/426625.jpg|1167774]. But you only catch glimpses of that style and instead get a sneaky sort of humor, reminiscent of Peter Stier and Where's Waldo. This one is also a nice little love letter to Boston. Now to get a copy of her third... ( )

In the tradition of the wordless picture book, comes a short story told all in the backdrop of NYC and the Met. We follow a young girl and her grandmother as they set off for a day at the museum. But all things change when the greeter at the door sees that the young girl is carrying a yellow balloon and scolds her. He then convinces her to tie the balloon to the railing as she spends the day in the Met, and the events that come next extrapolate a humor filled dash of artists, public servants, and orchestral members as they all chase the balloon throughout NYC's fine arts landmarks. It gives us a modern day look at art and how human our art traditions are indebted to in real life experience. Also illustrator uses the technique of coloring yellow all of the people involved around a backdrop of black and white. ( )

This book would be great with a writing activity in a 2nd or 3rd grade classroom. Since this book does not have words in it, doing a picture walk through and have each student create their own story to go along with the book by drawing conclusions from the illustrations. Another example of an activity that could be done with this book is to have a discussion on the importance of illustrations. The colorful and detailed illustrations in this book tell a story without using a single word. An extension of this lesson would be to have the students draw a comic strip that tells a story without using any words and ask them to share their illustrations with a partner and have the partner write a story based on the illustrations alone. Then, have them trade back and see how closely the partner's story matches the intention behind the drawings.

I would use this book for third or fourth grade because they can understand how to follow the story within the pictures on each page. I would use this book as an interactive-read aloud because even though there are not words to read, students can be asked about what they see in the pictures and relate them to topics in history.

This book can be used for Kindergarten because some of the students can not read therefore they can look at the pictures and still understand the story. In kindergarten I would use it as a read-aloud to teach foundational skills such as front cover, back cover, turning the page, etc. I would also use this book with 1st and 2nd graders because they would be able to relate to the children in the book and going to a museum. I would use the book in those grades as a class novel where the students have to create a story to go along with the pictures.
