Good short story about how Leonard beats the arson rap ( )

Having expected the last book I read to be a Hap & Leonard novel (and it wasn't), I decided to finally read this short story that ties up a loose end from the novels, where Leonard burned the neighbourhood crackhouse down.

In this story, Leonard is being represented by Veil, a thinly-veiled (pardon the pun) Andrew Vachss, helping to write himself.

It's not a bad story, but most of the thrust is with Veil, so it's missing some of the snap and crackle of a standard H&L novel.

But it certainly does finally answer how Leonard got through that whole arson thing. ( )

This was a short story set in the world of Hap and Leonard, but Mr. Lansdale co-wrote it with Andrew Vachss. I've been a fan of both of these authors for some time now, but never knew they wrote a story together.

What made this especially fun was that Joe Lansdale narrated it himself.
