Annie Sullivan taught and guided Helen Keller to do things many thought she would never be able to accomplish. I learned and read about Helen Keller when I was in elementary school and remember thinking how cool her story was, but I don't think I really put everything into perspective until reading this book. Now that I am older, I understand how difficult and challenging things were for not only Helen, but Annie as well. They were learning and going through this process together, in a time where all the tools and information they had to help people who were deaf, and blind was still fairly new. I think students would find the story and book interesting from the personal diary entries from Annie to the images of how to sign the alphabet. As a future teacher this book struck a chord with me, not just because Annie is a teacher too, but because I hope to impact at least one of my future students in a way that Annie impacted Helen’s. I really enjoyed reading this book and getting to ear a deeper appreciation for Annie and Helen’s stories. ( )

This is the story of Helen Keller, a little girl who was blind and deaf but with the help of her teacher Annie learned to overcome her disabilities. Annie taught Helen how to express herself despite being blind and deaf. This book is wonderful because it focuses on what Helen can do and rather what she can't do being blind and deaf. Helen grew up to become a successful educated woman! ( )

I absolutely love reading about Helen Keller and Annie Sullivan. This book is written for children and explains Helen Keller's situation in a way that children will be able to understand. Annie was able to do the impossible at the time and teach Helen Keller, a little girl who could not see nor hear. The relationship between the two could inspire teacher and student. I like how the book focused on Helen's frustration and temper during her childhood. The words flowed seamlessly as the finger spelling and learning increased. ( )

This is about a girl named Helen Keller who becomes blind and deaf at a very young age and has to deal with it. She has a very hard time but her mom starts to let her have her way because of her hardships. She has to learn how to speak in sign language without her vision and through out the process, learns to live with her disability and accept herself. This book is pretty much a classic in itself. It teaches us that we can make our frustrations into lessons and become a stronger person. ( )
