A sacred Navajo artifact, imbued with a shocking and dangerous power. An amoral con man, willing to stop at nothing to achieve his goals. And a tiny northern Maine town, isolated and vulnerable. Last November, Paskagankee, Maine was shaken to its core, held hostage by a centuries-old curse, terrorized by a brutal killing spree stopped at the last possible moment by new police chief Mike McMahon and beautiful young patrol officer Sharon Dupont. Now, just as the pair - and the town - is beginning to recover, a new horror comes calling. Billionaire Seattle software designer Brett Parker is in Paskagankee to check on the progress of his newly-constructed summer retreat. But he's not the only new resident in town. Max Acton, murderous sociopath and Arizona cult leader, has gained possession of a long-hidden sacred Navajo artifact with the ability to reanimate the dead. Acton aims to use the stone in a murderous plot to kidnap Parker and steal his revolutionary new software design developed for the U.S. Department of Defense, selling it to the highest bidder and making millions. He doesn't even need to get his hands dirty. All he needs is a victim to kill . . . and reanimate . . . and force to do his bidding. All he needs is a revenant. And the revenant is angry. And he's deadly. And he's unstoppable. And the town of Paskagankee will once again become a battleground between the living and the dead...… (meer)

Excellent story telling! If you like supernatural tales, with zombies and curses Revenant is for you. It is the sequel to Paskagankee, (which is also the name of the small town in Maine where this all takes place). Both stories are about murder in a small Maine town. The supernatural continues to create mayhem with the inhabitants, as forces are visited from the outside. The town’s people are for the most part, secluded from the usual perils of crime, the biggest danger is probably the drunkenness that is often seen in small desolate communities which struggle to survive. This far away, secluded corner of the world, is desired by those who want a place to hide away – thus the real tragedies begin when the outsiders bring with them supernatural elements. I don’t want to spoil the story, because this is a great one you should read. It is - Imaginative, well-paced and good character development. ( )

"A revenant is a visible ghost or animated corpse that was believed to return from the grave to terrorize the living." Source: Wiki

To me the revenant in this second Paskagankee novel by Allan Leverone, was more of a zombie than a ghost. An ancient Navajo artifact, a stone that looks ordinary but is anything but, has the power to bring dead people back to the living world. A man who is greedy and wants nothing but power and money and what that can buy, first attacks the man who is responsible to keep the stone safe, and then has his girlfriend lure a local to his death. They take his heart out of his body and put it together with the stone. The stone of course does it's evil magic and makes the man into a walking corpse.

Creepy enough for you?? It certainly was sufficiently creepy to me. This second book in the series brings back police chief Mike McMahon and patrol officer Sharon Dupont for an exciting, edge of your seat, look over your shoulder read with a touch of romance. Just when this small town bounces back from its previous horrible situation, these two police officers are thrust back into a different horror. Will they be able to survive??

I have enjoyed this series so far and look forward to maybe a third one? From the very descriptive sounds of squishing and slurping sounds to the shuffling and ponderous walking of the revenant, this story will have the reader wanting more. Warning: do not read at night!!!

I received a copy of this ebook for review from Reviews by Molly and did not receive any payment for my review good or bad. ( )
