James Fraser is coined for the creation of the nickel and many other things along the way. Following his life and the history of the buffalo nickel, this book outlines the path it took to get him there. Creating the nickel for the representation of the Native Americans, this book follows the art and culture it took to have the nickel we have now. I would use this in the elementary school classroom as a read aloud to introduce art and Native Americans, but I would also use this in the middle school classroom as a read aloud to go into depth in the history of the nickel and the culture of the Native Americans. I enjoyed this book, but I would not give it 5 stars because the text can be lengthy at times and may not be the best for a quick-read. ( )

Taylor Morrison is the author and illustrator of this book. It is well researched. This tells about how the buffalo nickel was dreamed up and made into reality. It is full of factual information to inspire any historian. ( )

This is a very nice book. The details about coin making were a bit heavy, but the fact that they were included definitely added something to the story. I had never heard of James Fraser, so this was definitely a good book to use to educate a little bit about an otherwise unknown artist. I liked it. ( )

This book is about the man that came up with the design for the Buffalo Nickel. It talks about his interaction with the Sioux Indians as a child and his time on the prairie.

I like this book in regards to his honest display of Native Americans. He tried to honor them with his Buffalo Nickel.

This would be a great book to use in a Native American unit. This book could also be used when discussing the U.S. currency.
