An imaginative epistolary retelling of Jane Austen's classic romance and comedy of manners Pride and Prejudice. Amanda Grange's fresh re-imagination of the world of Pemberley and Longbourn views it through the eyes of the classically compelling romantic hero: Fitzwilliam Darcy. The story unfolds in a series of revealing letters from the death of Darcy's beloved father and dealings with the scandalous Mr Wickham to his future with the spirited Elizabeth Bennett.… (meer)

Loved this one. It was true to the original and a delight to read. The epistolary format was a wonderful way to explore deeper characterization of the beloved leads, as well as minor characters like Mary, Georgiana, and Anne. I loved the sweet letters between Georgiana and Anne, and Mary’s lofty letters to Lucy Sotherton were the most amusing of the bunch. The introduction of the Sotherton family as the owners of Netherfield and family friends to the Bennets was just what the novel needed for the narrative to flow naturally in this format.
Reading this makes me want to reread the other Austen novels and Grange’s diary series for each of the heroes. Great fun for people who can’t get enough of Darcy and Elizabeth! ( )

I do love me some Pride and Prejudice retellings! Though I probably wouldn't recommend reading multiple retellings one after the other, as it is still the same story so this book, through no fault of its own, was not as engaging as the last series I read. Still, it was fun, and the format is well done, as the letters showcase the style and personalities of the different characters, and cleverly portray single events from very different points of view. This book was written through letter correspondence between all of the P&P characters as well as a few new ones. I had some consideration about this format becoming monotonous, but it didn't. The further I read the more complex everything became and the author captured the personalities of the characters. You can feel the silliness, (Lydia and Mrs. Bennett), urgency, (Jane's letter to Lizzy), ridiculous conceit, (Catherine de Bourgh and Mr. Collins), frustration, (Lizzy), etc. of each character/letter. There was only one thing that Lizzy wrote (at the end of the book), that I wished the author had left out, but I'd still recommend the book. ( )

More like 3.75 stars. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this book. This is a retelling of "Pride & Prejudice" (which is obvious, for many reasons). What I particularly enjoyed was getting to know some of the less prominent characters from the original novel, and some of the background details. Well, made up background details, of course. For instance, why was Netherfield Park empty, anyway? Probably not a very important detail in the grand scheme of things, but it did lead to a familiar plot devise. Also, Mary Bennet is completely hilarious in this novel! ( )

A retelling of Pride and Prejudice. This retelling is done with letters from the characters we met in the original. I found the book slightly confussing at first, due to the letter format but it didn't take me long to get used to it. I ended up enjoying the read. Well I am a Pride and Prejudice fan. ( )

Dear Mr. Darcy,
I hope I am not doing wrong by writing to you, being only the housekeeper, but your father is very ill and I thought you would want to know.
