Hippo loves chocolate chip cookies.

I like this book because of the illustrations and the plot. The illustrations help aid the reader understand what is going on in the book. Since this book is geared toward kindergarten, not every student may be able to read but the illustrations help. For example, the sentence says, "Ed loves all kind of cookies!" And the illustration shows all different types of cookies and Ed eating them. I also like the plot. It is fantastical and fun for kids. Ed the hippo is very happy and the plot is accurate for kindergarteners to read. The purpose of this story is to entertain and for fun. ( )

I had mixed feelings about this book after reading it. I liked the book because it is an easy read for beginning readers, and the sentences are nice and short. For example, the first sentence of the book reads, “Ed the hippo loves to eat cookies” these are words that beginning readers already know, or they are words that can be sounded out, which is nice. But some things I did not like about this book is the fact that there is no big idea or message to the story, in fact, there does not really even seem to be a story. Although it is a good book for beginners, this book lacks a plot and an underlying message. ( )
