"Cat Fight: Preternaturals Shorts (short story: 5,000 words) . . . hell hath no fury like a kitty scorned. Werecat Greta Lawson has been involved with the local bad boy sorcerer since she sought his protection from her murderous tribe. After a domestic squabble, she shifts into cat form and refuses to change back. The events of this story happen after the first novella in Blood Lust (Kept). However it can be read out of order as a teaser to the Preternaturals series. Zoe Winters' Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy Series: The Preternaturals Enter a world of dark desire and dark magic where today's hero is tomorrow's villain... or vice versa. Unleashed passions between unlikely lovers rage against the backdrop of a world of conflict and infighting among the secret factions of the preternatural underworld. Are you the villain if you've got good reasons? Are you the hero just because we're rooting for you? Tormented alphas, charismatic and ruthless leaders, and the women torn and trapped between them, forced into situations they never should have had to face. Amidst a world of ignorant humans, the demons (true immortals), vampires, and therians (shapeshifters) fight to keep their territories. The only humans aware of this world are the magic users: witches, wizards, and sorcerers who enjoy the ability to mix with the humans or the monsters depending on what suits their current purposes. If the preternatural world is discovered and war breaks out, the humans have a chance... IF the magic users choose to cast their fate with their own kind. Magic combined with technology would even the playing field more than the monsters are comfortable with. Dark lovers you'll meet in this series: Cain: He's an incubus dream boat, physically, but it's nearly impossible to keep up with his body count. Any woman who comes to his bed is likely never to leave... at least not alive. But what happens when he meets a woman with a true death wish, the one meal he discovers he doesn't want to kill? Luc: Another incubus. Taking this demon lover to bed is a touch safer. He's grown a conscience from being trapped for fifty years via a curse that not only keeps him under house arrest but has reawakened his humanity. He's learned the most dangerous thing in his immortal existence is an angry witch scorned. Still, a demon's gotta eat, and there is only one woman that satisfies both the demon and man in him. Cole: Alpha of one of the strongest werewolf packs in North America. His moral compass goes askew when he finds the woman fated to be his, and he can't resist kidnapping her. With the life of abuse she's suffered at the hands of the vampires, it might be a welcome rescue. But the werewolves have a worse reputation than the vampires, a fact that doesn't inspire much trust. Not your classic sweet werewolf love story. But being an alpha's mate brings with it a safety and security Jane has never known. Hadrian: Once a priest, now a vampire. Destiny has dealt him an odd hand, or Angeline, his sire, has. Her need for his love couldn't trump his need for freedom. And now he believes he's put her far in his past. But when he sees her tormented more than any vampire deserves, he'll take her under his wing to protect her once again. Anthony: The vampire king. Cold, ruthless, undead, and hard to like. Yet, all it takes is one human with amnesia, to soften his heart. Ever since being bitten, she hasn't been the same. It soon becomes clear that the only way to protect a fragile human is if she's claimed. Meanwhile, his deepest wish is to have his lover awakened from the memory loss that took everything... not just the memories he meant to erase. If you like Zoe Winters you may also enjoy H.P. Mallory, Larissa Ione, and J.R. Ward. Books in the Preternaturals Series: Blood Lust (book 1) (Kept, Claimed, Mated) Save My Soul (book 2) The Catalyst (book 3) Life Cycle (book 4) Shorts: Cat Fight Dark Mercy."--… (meer)

Cat Fight is a short snippet of life for Dayne and Greta post Kept. Best I can figure, it falls sometime after Kept/Claimed and before Mated - but it doesn't affect Mated to read it before or after. This was a funny little piece about Greta getting jealous of Dayne's ex lover and her passive aggressive attempt to get revenge. There's not a lot here, but it was an amusing look at how Dayne's life has changed. 2.5 stars. ( )

I love this series. I enjoyed Greta and Dayne’s story, Kept, in Blood Lust. Therefore, I was excited to see a short story about the in Cat Fight, which takes place after Kept. I just can’t seem to get enough of the fantasy, paranormal world these days.

Cat Fight was a very quick read, coming in at about 20 pages. The plot was kind of adorable. It was sort of realistic with the whole jealousy of an ex aspect. Good to know even the supernaturals get jealous and it’s not just us mere mortals.

Blake, the beta from Claimed, makes an appearance and I wish he had his own story. It could be a short story, but now I’m dying to know more about him!

Overall, I thought Cat Fight was a cute addition to the series. It’s not a necessary read for the series, but it’s a fun bonus. It actually could be read as a stand-alone, if you really wanted to read it. I would recommend Cat Fight, if you’ve already read Blood Lust (or at least Kept and Claimed from Blood Lust).
