I definitely want this book to be on my bookshelf when I become a teacher. The main purpose of “Weird!” is to help children who are being bullied and to help them be proud of themselves. Not only is the main point a great message, but the author executes and progresses the flow of the story well. The first person point of view of the book makes it seem like the main character, Luisa, is sharing her personal life. The book transitions are smooth and slowly and naturally leads up to Luisa's acceptance of herself. The book starts off with Luisa introducing herself and the bully who calls her weird, then it shares specific examples of what the bully calls Luisa weird for. All the reasons why the bully calls Luisa weird for, Luisa realizes that she should not care about the bully's comments and go on with doing what she likes. I also loved how at the end of the book, the author gave concluding thoughts from Luisa, the bully, and one of Luisa's friend. There are also summarized steps for children to go through if they are being bullied. For example, one page is called “Confidence Club: Recycle Your Thoughts.” The page gives instructions for readers to write negative thoughts on circles, and then write positive thoughts on circle. After they are done, they then throw away the negative circles. This is a creative, and great self-help and self-awareness book for children who are bullied. ( ) The purpose of this book is to bring light to bullying. This topic is not something that can be joked around with and this book allows readers to be more aware of what's going on. Also, the purpose is to allow readers to know what they should do if they were in the same situation. In my opinion, this is a helpful book. Although, this is gender-selected and geared more towards girls, this allows readers to see that bullying is a scary thing and can really hurt people. One thing I liked about this book was the illustrations. The text throughout the book was never in the same area of the pages. They were spread out throughout the book and were incorporated within the illustrations. The pictures help readers see what kind of bullying the main character faced and the images show the readers how the character felt during those times. Another reason why I like this book is because of the language plot. I think it was a good idea for the reader to create this book and a series on bullying from both perspectives. The book starts off by showing that the main character is unique in mild ways, but because of being called "weird" she tries to change herself and become very different. In the end she realizes that it doesn't matter as long as she's happy with who she is. This is definitely a good book for children to read to bring awareness of bullying. Bullying isn't to bad in younger grades, but it still happens. This books gets the students talking about bullying and shows how Luisa deals with the bullying that's done o her. Liusa is constantly bullied and eventualy hids from everyone, but then family and friends show her that bullying is not right and help her to be herslef again. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
