Great book for boys and reluctant readers and really just a great read. The author does a fantastic job of getting into the mind of a fifth grade boy. I love the comb getting stuck in a child's hair. I worked in an elementary school and that is just a typical thing that would happen. The way the words are drawn and artistically part of storytelling is fun. There are a few times when there is a bit of meanness that grownups don't approve of, but it is realistic. ( )

Tom Gates loves to doodle in class. This gives him "genius' ideas which often get him in trouble, but are always funny! he has an unusual family, so his genius ideas are at work at home, too. the illustrations are his doodles. These doodles drive the story. Tom doodles us through Sports Day, disastrous family BBQ's, and a trip to the theater to name a few. The setting is in GB so some terms and situations add to the fun. I loved the energy and human-like nature of this fictional kid...and his doodles. I think real kid readers would, too! ( )

This book is on par with the Diary of the Wimpy Kid series. I love, love, love the drawings. They are enchanting and humorous. I find the use of the different font styles captivating. The artwork of text pushes the art of this title to a higher level. Enjoy! ( )

I loved this book! It was really entertaining and funny in some areas, which actually made me Laugh Out Loud.LOL and the tiny flipbook on the corner was just delightful. =D ( )

The books in the Tom Gates series are always very entertaining. What I like about this sketch style is that the words are illustrated within its font or right within the sentence. These books are very attractive to my ELL students and SPED students. I enjoy them for the humor and quickness of the read. ( )
