De opzet is om het thema 'wereldgeschiedenis' toegankelijk en genietbaar te maken voor een groot, met name jong publiek. Hiertoe wordt de wereldgeschiedenis niet opgediend in de gebruikelijke indeling en chronologische volgorde, maar worden er grepen gedaan uit een veelheid van feiten en wetenswaardigheden. Zo bevat het deel 'oorlog' onder meer korte beschouwingen over strijdmethodes in de oudheid, de rol van de cavalerie, het buskruit en later spoorwegen, radar en nucleaire technologie. De 23 hoofdstukjes eindigen elk met willekeurige datalijstjes. Zowel westerse als niet-westerse geschiedenis komen aan bod. De tekst is merendeels correct, zij het geforceerd populariserend en voor de doelgroep, jonge lezers, niet altijd eenvoudig. Geijkte historische thema's (zoals de geschiedenis van de Sovjet-Unie) komen er veelal bekaaid van af. Minpunten vormen de versnippering en de geringe diepgang. Alleen leuk voor grasduiners. Met zwartwitafbeeldingen en een alfabetisch register.
