The writing left more to be desired. It was a tad annoying that almost every paragraph started with Lexy. The romance felt a little pushed, I mean they needed to together and I was glad they did but method that it happened was lackluster. Also the foreshadowing, or what I'm suspecting was foreshadowing was kind of silly and pulled me out of the story. I'm giving 3 stars because the base story was cute, and I love when these bakery mystery books include recipes. Lately I'm really enjoying cozies, especially quick ones. This one includes all of the ingredients (pun intended!) that I enjoy - young entrepreneur who stumbles into a mystery, charming small town, cute guy conveniently located right next door, zany supporting characters including her grandmother, her bestie, and her clever little dog Sprinkles. The mystery was packaged neatly in the 146 pages (just a little over 2 hours for the audio) and left me wanting more of Lexy's adventures. This one felt quite like a Hallmark holiday movie, but in cupcake form. Love that the author included a recipe and I hope future books will have one too! That was a favorite feature in my first ever cozy series, the Goldy catering mysteries.
Lexy Baker owns a bakery and lives at her grandmother Nan’s home with her dog Sprinkles. Lexy’s ex-boyfriend Kevin is found poisoned by one of her cupcakes. Lexy’s detective neighbor, Jack Perillo investigates the murder. Lexy with the help of Nan’s friends help Lexy find the killer and save Lexy’s cupcake business. There is also a delicious cupcake recipe at the end of the book. I really enjoyed this short story cozy mystery novel. Onderdeel van de reeks(en)Lexy Baker (1) Is opgenomen in
Things are going great for Lexy Baker. She's finally opened her dream bakery, gotten rid of her cheating boyfriend and settled into her grandmother's house with her perky dog Sprinkles at her side. But her blissful life doesn't last long. When her ex-boyfriend is found poisoned with cupcakes from her bakery, Lexy finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation headed up by her hunky neighbor detective Jack Perillo. With the help of a gang of iPad toting, would-be detective grandmothers, Lexy decides to take it upon herself to find the real murderer in order to clear her name and get her bakery back in business. As things heat up on the murder trail, in the kitchen, and between Lexy and the hunky detective, it's a race against time to put the real murderer behind bars and get back to baking. This novella is was a very quick read. It is an OK cozy (though I thought it was fairly obvious who the culprit was) and the writing is decent. The main reason I didn't give it 3* is because of Lexy's incredibly foolish
I think that I would have enjoyed this book more earlier in my life but currently I am "off" cozies of this particular style, in which the main character's personal and love/sex life are the focus rather than the mystery. ( )
