Tin Lizzie is a fun history of transportation from the novel invention of the horseless carriage to the development of the highway system as told through the lens of one Model T Ford named Tin Lizzie. Even though the main character is a car, this story is told through the relationships the car has to the families that own her and the various functions she fills throughout her long life. Spier's active illustrations are full of color and detail and most page spreads feature 3+ individual images. The text is also full of details about how vehicles operate, how they are cared for, and what people have historically thought of them. A final finishing touch is the back inside cover, which has a complete diagram of the 1909 Model T Touring Car with the all the parts labeled. This book shows different cars and the changes from generation to generation. http://www.childrensliteraturenetwork.org/birthbios/brthpage/06jun/6-6spie.html A Peter Spier picture book that traces the social history of the middle decades of the 20th century through the lives and adventures of a Ford Model T. It has the wonderfully detailed watercolor illustrations that are a hallmark of Spier, and text that is probably rather dense for most picture-book readers, but interesting and full of facts to read together with people of any age who like old cars, americana, and junk, including a two-page spread in the back with a full diagram of the mechanics of a model T touring car. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
