This book is a collection of students' poems about their fathers. Celebrating African American culture, the students wrote poems describing their dads. This book is brightly illustrated and designed through collages. I would put this book in my classroom shelf for both elementary school and middle school. I would not read it aloud, unless it is just a couple poems, because it is a long book used more for student's independent learning. I would use this book as an introduction to a father's day activity we are doing or anything we are doing with poetry. I enjoyed reading the poems as they were super cute and meaningful. I really like this book because I am a huge fan of poetry. I also really like how most of the poems are about the father being a role model for the boy. This teaches kids to look up to their parents. Also it says that in daddys arms I am tall, a kid may look at this and think because daddy is holding them up so they are literally taller but this is both literal and metaphorical and I really like that. -Mixed media illustrations, each double spread drawn for the poem on the page. -While I love the sweet omage to African American fathers, the illustrative stylings and text comparison does not mesh as well for me as with other similar books. I like some of the poems and adjoining images, but several of them to not catch my fancy. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
