This one definitely gets some marks for innovation, but it's not ~that~ drastic from other lift-the-flap books. The artwork is very pretty (I'm a huge fan of all the pink) and I love the way Flora and the flamingo both move. It's a cute book, but it's not one that is going to stick in my mind in any way other that being "that flap flamingo book". I think it could have used a little more PiZzAzZ to really make it stand out. Younger kids will probably get a grin out of it! ( ) This book had a cute idea of using the flaps at the beginning but then I wasn't quite sure why they suddenly stopped for the other half of the book. The simplicity of the book is beautiful with just the two characters on each spread, a white background for most of the story. Of course this is one with no words, yet evokes a sense of fun and playfulness. Overall though, I wasn't too impressed with Flora and the Flamingo. While the simplicity of the artwork brings a nice aesthetic, I don't sense much of a story from the interaction of the two characters present. It was also very short, which is probably a factor of it not having much of a storyline. This book is a wordless picture book, but the illustrations are beautiful and they help to tell the story in an engaging way. It is a fun story bout friendship, and I think it would be a fun read-aloud for primary students. These students may be able to make predictions about what is going on in the story and what the characters are feeling. It can also be used for intermediate students, to teach about different literary elements, and I think it would be more informational/educational for these students. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
