Zamoyski begins with the American Revolution in 1776 and concludes with the Paris Commune of 1871, and in between covers a tumultuous period that included the French Revolution, the Haitian Revolution, the Latin American revolutions, the revolts of 1848, and the numerous wars spawned by these upheavals. He also provides good insights into significant figures, such as Napoleon, Bolivar, and Garbaldi. A good read for anyone interested in this period of history. ( )
