Hooray, Patty is finally "out" in society, as evidenced by the big party thrown to alert everyone of the fact. Really, though, not much changes, since she's always been a very social creature. The only thing that differs is that now there is a little bit more talk about romance. Patty's determined that all of that is still for the future, and she mercilessly avoids answering any impassioned questions or hints as to whether or not certain young men might in time "have hope," which is the favorite phrase. The title of the previous book, "Patty's Butterfly Days," is very appropriate, because she is very much a little butterfly. But that's not to say that she doesn't have a serious side, also. She does, and she really cares about making people happy, being tactful, and all that. In fact, she and her friends form another temporary club (how many clubs has Patty started over the years?) where they think of someone that they know of who is working-class and never gets to have a good time, and they give that person a day of fun. Patty's charities aren't always strictly practical, but they are very compassionate all the same, and she hopes that they are just as meaningful. There is also a semi-unexpected engagement/wedding in this one, but it's not a huge plot point. ( )
