Wow, what an intense book! As a fan of suspense and psychological thrillers (parts of this book reminded me of "Criminal Minds") with some steamy romance mixed in, I could hardly put this book down. I kept coming back to it at the earliest opportunity because I needed to know how it was going to end.
It took me a little while to warm up (pun intended) to Britt, but once I got past the seeming shallowness of her personality, she was easier to relate to and root for while fighting for her life in the frozen mountains. And I have to say, the descriptions of her journey through the woods was so ingenious that I found myself shivering in commiseration.
And then there's Mason. Also known as Jude. He was interesting, to say the least, and harder to pin down in terms of his goals for being in this situation. I doubted his intentions along with Britt, yet came to the conclusion that if really was a cold-blooded killer, he'd had plenty of opportunities to attack Britt. But he continued to look out for her, protect her. When Britt thought that he was the monster of the story, I thought she was nuts. I had a sneaking suspicion of who was really behind the murders, and when it was confirmed, the danger level for Britt and Jude skyrocketed.
I was glad for the epilogue; I thought it was a lovely way to wrap up the whole novel. ( )

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick is a great YA thriller to keep you glued to the page.

I've had this book for YEARS. Quite literally, years. I bought it when it came out, lost it for a bit, and have been staring at it every since. I loved the Hush, Hush series back in my high school days, so this book naturally was a fit. AND MY GOSH IT STILL IS!

I love Becca Fitzpatrick's writing. It's fast paced, easy to follow and has me glued to the book no matter what.

Britt decides that she is going to go up to her friend's ski lodge with said friend. She's hoping to woo her ex boyfriend, also her bestie's brother. Along the way, they get lost and are suddenly thrust into a scary position when two boys keep them hostage. Things go downhill fast! Will Brit and Korbie get out alive? Will they figure out the secrets all of them are holding?

There are definitely issues within this book, but I took this book as something fast and thrilling to read. It's not a non-fiction tale, despite it having some difficult topics. There's abuse, there's death and there's kidnapping. It's scary, and I can easily see why some readers aren't comfortable with this book.

The plot is wild and the twists are easy to see coming. At first, I wasn't sure what direction this book was going to take, and then it took THAT twist. It wasn't what I would expect from a YA novel, but Becca did it anyways. I'm impressed, even though there was some crumbs left along the way to figure it out.

Is there problems with how the story ended? Yeah, it was kind of creepy but I don't think this book was meant to be for the light-hearted. It's a bit darker of a YA novel, in my humble opinion.

I will say I LOVE the name of this book and the cover. It's stood out to me for years.

Three out of five stars. ( )

When I saw that Becca Fitzpatrick was coming out with a new book I was super excited because I absolutely loved the Hush, Hush series. I had pretty high expectations for this book, and I'm glad to say that they were met. I haven't read many kidnapping stories before, so I don't quite have anything to compare it to but I really enjoyed it. Britt was a pretty good main character. While I did want to slap her for being friends with Korbie (who is extremely annoying and not the brightest bulb), she made up for that with her quick thinking around Shaun the psychopath...kind of. There were some eye rolling moments from her actions but not many. Kidnapping books aren't really my type, but Black Ice was uber creepy and full of suspense yet kind of swoony at times. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time! ( )
