A Lycan descendant of Gilgamesh and Enkidu, Tristan is not as extraordinary as his ancestors. He is an average warrior, unremarkable throughout. But this fact does not trouble him because he has found his Twin Flame, the one person destined to be his, who will love him unconditionally, life after life. Then his Flame betrays him, leaving him shattered and dying. Brokenhearted, Tristan dissolves the sacred bond and leaves. His best friend, Ushna, accompanies him, vowing to guard and protect him, and Tristan slowly comes to realize that love does not require a sacred bond. But if he hopes to keep the love he chooses, they will first have to survive ancient secrets, lies, mythical creatures, and the return of absent gods... Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

Tristan may be a Warrior of Anat, and "lucky" to have found his twin flame, but he is a tragic figure. The man who is supposed to love him unconditionally is a bastard and cheats on him at every turn. This almost destroys Tristan, and when he finally finds the courage to break the bond, a procedure almost unheard of and thought life-threatening, he almost dies for real. The depth of his despair was so clear, the pain so vivid, I really suffered with him.
His best friend Ushna is there for him, has always been there for him, ever since Tristan helped him get over the death of Ushna's twin flame when they were young boys. Of course it takes them a while to see what seemed to be so obvious for me as a reader: they were clearly meant for each other. However, by the time you add in all the ancient secrets and lies that are suddenly revealed, not to mention the enemies who come crawling out of the woodwork, neither Ushna nor Tristan have an easy time of it.
As is to be expected of an epic fantasy/paranormal drama like this, the tension is high, the consequences of failure simply unacceptable, and the effort and sacrifices of the main characters are exemplary. I thoroughly enjoyed every single aspect of this story! If you like legends and old mysteries, if you enjoy tales with more twists and turns than chapters in the book, and if you want a very hot and emotionally fulfilling love story on top of all that – go buy this book! I loved reading it and cannot wait for the sequel!
