First published in the 80s and reads like it could've been written yesterday. I am so happy to see older, landmark manga works still getting English translations and US publications. ( ) Real Housewives of Tokyo - 1980s edition. A lonely mother in her thirties copes with the slice of life drama of raising her two daughters and wrangling her distant husband, a salaryman with long work hours and a wandering eye. Adrift on a sea of minor day-to-day events, Chiharu Yamakawa's angst and philosophizing lead to the realization that she is capable of raising her own sails and changing tack. "Set in an apartment complex on the outskirts of Tokyo, Murasaki Yamada's Talk to My Back (1981-84) explores the fraying of Japan's suburban middle-class dreams through a woman's relationship with her two daughters as they mature and assert their independence, and with her husband, who works late and sees his wife as little more than a domestic servant."--Amazon.
