I bought it ‘cos I’m a fan J I fricking love this series and this one was a brilliant addition to the series. A novella, this tells the story of the lovely Olivia and the very gruff Sebastian. It was all kinds of awesome and reminded me a little of book one in some ways. I adored it! Olivia is the friend of Grace the Oracle, so I got to see Khalil again.... this makes me happy J In her own right, I knew that Olivia would be a strong heroine (Thea Harrison always writes awesome female leads) but I couldn’t get past one issue; she was human. I am used to the elder races having massively extended lifespans and I didn’t know how this issue would be addressed (let’s be honest, it always is an issue with human/vamp stories). Anyway, I digress. What did I think of Olivia? I really liked her. She didn’t shy away from her attraction to the grumpy Sebastian but allowed it grow. The way she handled his curse made me respect her even more; her we’ll fix it or cope attitude was refreshing and just solidified her strength in my eyes. Sebastian is a grumpy, alpha man who has a secret. He had the air of age and arrogance that I loved so much about Dragos and he never seemed anything but serious. He realises very quickly that he is attracted to her and I adored the way that he just decided that, if she would have him, he wanted her. He seemed so aloof with everyone else but, with her, he opened up about things (like his lack of sight) and I wanted them together. Another magnificent pairing from Thea Harrison. There was a fair amount of sexy times in this book much to my joy! Although the series itself isn’t sex-shy, this book seemed to take it up a step or two in this camp. Each scorching scene made me realise how well suited these characters and I really wanted them to succeed. Overall, this was a fabulous novella and it gave me a much needed Elder World fix. I’d like to see more of these two characters in the future books and loved the steaminess in this one J When Thea Harrison asked on Twitter for reviewers, I jumped on the chance. And I am glad I did. This was an excellent addition to the Elder Races Universe. The story takes place on Carling's Island, located in an Otherworld. It was intresting to follow the preparations for their trip there. It also felt right that it wasn't easy to get to the Island, and the fact that part of the journey was the most dangerous one. I really enjoyed Olivia's and Sam's romance. It felt nuanced. There was a sexual attraction between them , but they also talked with each other. I also loved the supporting characters, from Phaedra ( and I am having my fingers crossed that she will get her own story) to Bailey. The plot wasn't unique, but it was well crafted. I enjoyed the romance, with a dash of mystery tossed in. It was intresting to watch Sam struggle with his curse, and the despair he felt over it. The biggest problem I had, was that I felt that the story should have been longer. For example, the part of the book that focused on Olivia, and her work to pack up the library felt... shallow. As a result, I didn't feel the impact when the disaster finally struck. It was more ” Oh, the villain finally acted.” This novella was so good, and it's about nothing. Basically this vampire (we met her in earlier books) has a library she needs to move, so she hires a security company and a bunch of librarians to...I don't know. To catalog and move the books? I mean, nothing happens. I'm not pretending like anything does. I admit that the plot is boring. It's so, so good. I love this series. I love this series a lot. People turn into dragons and unicorns and stuff in it. You guys, you gotta read these books. They're amazing. Full Review to be posted soon: Wonderful, sweet and tender paranormal romance novella. Although this is a stand alone story in the Elder series, I really enjoyed this installment. The romance was fun and sexy between Olivia and Sebastiaan and the plot was enjoyable. I also loved supporting characters like Phaedra the Djinn whose actions brought on some chuckles. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
