Homelessness is a nonfiction story about a young boy experience with his family being homeless. It's great to see the progression of Mikey and his family as they settle into their apartment or buy groceries with public assistance. This book is very informative to teach children about poverty and how it still affects families. ( ) This book goes through a child's experience, Mikey, on being homeless. I wasn't much of a fan of this book. It's a little outdated when it comes to timing since it was published in 1995. It's very lengthy and kinda drags on at times. This book will not be something that I would share with students because it doesn't grab your attention and want to learn more on being homeless. In this book, a little boy Mikey explains the life of his homeless family of six. He explains in detail about the way they go about getting help, cashing checks, and getting food stamps. They are placed in a temporary apartment which could only last nine months. Before being placed in the apartment ,all he hopes for is a clean place to sleep at night. This is a very sad book, but a great way to show your children the importance of education and how hard some people have it. It will also teach your children to appreciate some of the little things they have in life. This is a Wonderful book! This book was wonderful. It told of a boys journey of his family and him being homeless. The ups and downs of living a homeless life. Throughout the story, the boy shows hope that he has hope for a better life in the future. In the classroom I would use this in a Social Studies class to teach about poverty. Hopefully my students will get something out of this book. I certainly did even though I am well educated in poverty and homeless individuals. I could have a class discussion on poverty, and maybe do group work. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
