Miles is back for another round of hard-boiled pulp action in the two-fisted sequel to The Man Who Crossed Worlds.Freelance Tunneler Miles Franco is having a bad time of it. Now he'll have to walk the darkest road he's ever been down. I received this book for free in exchange for agreeing to provide an honest review.

I love a book that keeps me guessing, and that is what The Man Who Walked In Darkness does amazingly well. Miles is definitely a man who marches to the beat of his own drummer. His personal moral code has a tenancy to get him in big trouble. He's rather like that watch that takes a licking but keeps on ticking.
This story has more ups and downs than a roller coaster. The characters are wonderfully described, yet the reader is never quite sure who is on the side of evil as opposed to who is on the side of good. Except of course for Miles loyal friends who are always there when he needs them. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, there came another plot twist. I loved the language contrasts used in the book. We are in the future when moving between worlds is quite common and yet old fashioned detective story language slips into the narrative. I loved it. The idea of string theory and parallel universes has only recently become a new norm in the world of science. It has evolved from a crazed wishful theory to a solid and possible concept. Today scientists study the possibility that many worlds exist on levels that humanity is not capable of understanding. These new theories have opened up a fountain of questions and excitement for both astrophysics and those in the world of literature. The notion alone that humanity is not alone is both awe inspiring and frightening. What would these aliens look like and how would they interact with humans? Could humanity accept another species of intelligent beings or would utter chaos happen? This story touches on the idea of parallel universes and alien life forms. It is about a man named Miles Franco who happens to be a gifted tunneler. A person with profound abilities that is able to open doors to other worlds with only his mind and a drug. A man that is both tortured and talented, but is in constant danger. What do you get when you mix a fractured man with godlike powers? You get one hell of a story!

This book was one insane ride after another! I absolutely loved it and am going to have my husband read it. I normally do not get into books like this, but I am happy that I did. The story was very captivating and had me on edge the entire time. I really enjoyed the main character and would like to give it a go with the author's other books. The ideas about parallel universes and how his character was able to open doors to them really intrigued me. For me the story seemed original and perked my continual interest. I did not put it down once and was anxious to finish it! I have to recommend this book hands down! I honestly believe that you will enjoy it for the great story that it is. I also have to thank the author for giving it to me in a Librarything member giveaway! Awesome job author and great job publisher! You have a keeper here. :) ( )

I received "The Man Who Crossed Worlds" and "The Man Who Walked in Darkness" by Chris Strange through Librarything.com.

Oh wow these Miles Franco books are good. I read lots of Urban Fantasy and I would certainly tell you if these were not worth reading. Nitpickers will say, "Oh, Harry Dresden did this first.", "Felix Castor does that too.", "I saw that in Charles de Lint." and if you are going to read like that then perhaps you should stop reading Urban Fantasy because there are limits to where these books can go.

Miles is a fresh character and Tunneling is cool. Tunneling technology is framed to allow Mr. Strange to write as many books in the series as he has ideas. No need to visit the same world twice.

The complaints I have are grammatical, as always. Mr. Strange needs to work on his verb tenses (past of "to sink" is "sank", not "sunk") and his object pronouns.

And why do these guys all end up with supernatural dogs? Why not cats or monkeys or parrots? ( )

I slammed the empty shot glass down on the bar, smacked my lips, and waved to the bartender, an unnaturally skinny guy trying his best to hide a receding hairline beneath a thin comb-over.
