I'm very happy that I didn't. It wasn't as good as I wanted it to be, but still it was a pleasurable read and I quite enjoyed it. The beginning was fun, although I kept wondering how drunk she must have been to forget everything. The second part of the book was much worse and I didn't like the ending, but all in all not horrible. Three and a half stars. ( ) Lick 4 Stars Rock stars are not my usual fare as this trope is often sexist and misogynistic. Nevertheless, it is the focus of one of my challenges, so I decided to give Lick a try as I've recently read and enjoyed Kylie Scott's Larsen Bros series. The book is well-written with engaging characters, and Scott manages to avoid most of the issues that annoy me. The book does not actually begin well. The heroine, 21-year-old Evelyn Thomas, awakens on the bathroom floor of a hotel in Las Vegas with no memory of the night before. It quickly becomes clear that she has married a complete stranger and had his name tattooed on her butt. A barely legal heroine engaging in immature, reckless and idiotic behavior is NOT appealing! At this point, the book would have been a DNF if not for the aforementioned challenge. As the tale progresses, however, it takes a turn for the better. Evelyn is, in fact, not an idiot despite her impulsive actions. She is shy, studious and sweet, and the manner in which she handles the revelation that her newly acquired husband is a famous rock star demonstrates real strength of character. Her lack of life experience does emerge every once in a while, particularly when she Speaking of said husband, David Ferris, is the antithesis of every rocker stereotype. He is not into sex or drugs despite the rock 'n' roll. It is obvious from the start that he truly loves Ev. He is smitten by her courage, generosity and spirit from the first. She is everything he never knew he always wanted and is devastated that she doesn't remember him. David and Ev's romance is lovely and believable despite the incongruity of an innocent waif marrying an experienced sex symbol. Their interactions are sexy and sweet, and even their miscommunications add to their characterization and to the development of their relationship. One particularly appealing aspect is the fact that Ev doesn't simply cave to David's charm, but makes him really work to win her. He has truly excellent groveling skills that only make him even more delectable. All in all, this book has me rethinking the rock star trope to a certain extent, and I will certainly be continuing with the series, which focuses on the other members of David's group - Stage Dive. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
