I failed to realize this before reading the book and was confused about what was going on. I had a difficult time following the book because of it. Had I realized this prior to reading the story I probably would have enjoyed it more. ( ) I picked this up thinking, based on the author and artist, that this would be a Jewish midrash. It is, however, based on an Islamic version of the objecctions raised by the angels, Earth, and Soul when God decides to create Adam and Eve. The story ends happily with Adam and Eve in Paradise, before Iblis, who has been exiled by God for not bowing down to Adam, ruins everything. The artwork is lovely. The Author's Note before the story explains that this version is by Abou-Djafar al Tabari, born circa 839 C.E. and "material for [it] can be found in the Reverend S. Baring-Gould's wonderful book Legends of the Patriarchs and Prophets (New York, 1885)." geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
