A simple, warm story about a middle school boy grappling with his inherited notions of masculinity. I really could have used a book like this in my teens. ( ) Here are the things I did not like about this book: (1) I did not find it humorous, (2) I did not like the vernacular narration, and (3) I was mostly bored and just wanted it to end. Most people loved it. Kevin Phifer is an average middle school black kid in a small city, from a broken home, socially awkward, being bullied a bit, trying to come to grips with his own sexuality and getting a girlfriend, while his primary male role model (Uncle Paul) is trying to figure out how to tell Kevin that he is gay. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

HTML: Chris L. Terry's debut young adult novel Zero Fade chronicles eight days in the life of inner-city Richmond, Virginia teen Kevin Phifer as he deals with wack haircuts, bullies, last-year fly gear, his uncle Paul coming out as gay, and being grounded. From his punk rock young adulthood to teaching writing to juvenile inmates, Chris L. Terry knows the vernacular of youth, its rhythms, relationships, and dreams. Equipped with a deft comic hand, Terry has created a young adult novel like few before it. .Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
