Back home after her adventures in Europe, Patty's next episode begins with remarks from her friend Mr. Hepworth about a girl he knows who is a fantastic artist but lacks the money to pursue the education that would give her a career. Patty (who's never had to work for money at all) says that it ought to be easy for any average girl to earn the requisite amount per week. Her father, knowing a little bit more about the real world, challenges her to earn $15 in one week. If she can, then he will pay for the artist-girl's room and board. Patty tries several things, most of which prove to her that the working world is a serious and really difficult place. But she meets it all with humor and refuses to give up. The interesting thing to me is what her family considers suitable work for a girl of her station. They forbid her to sell things behind a counter; however, anything millinery or sewing-related is evidently okay. Anyway, these are more steps on the road to Patty becoming more aware of the different circumstances and hardships around her. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
