This is a simple book that talks about the sun and the moon and the different things that they both "see" when they enter the sky each day. It is a two part book, each side talking about their respective topic. It would be a great book to teach children about day and night and what happens during each. ( ) I love Tafuri's naturalistic drawings, especially of animals. This book is so far my favorite of hers. It's actually two stories in one, or one story in a potentially infinite loop! One half portrays a variety of night scenes, under the watchful glow of the moon. The other half shows subtly corresponding daytime scenes, all overseen by the bright sun. The text is spare, not describing the images in much detail and instead leaving plenty of room for story time participation. When you arrive at the end of one half, you can flip the book over to read the other. I like to make a big deal out of flipping the book at story time, much to the delight of the audience. And with the flexible order, you can read day to night for evening programs or night to day for the morning crowd. Song pairing: "Wheels on the Bus" The best part about this book is that one side is all about things the "sun sees". So, things that happen in the daytime. Then, you have to flip the book over upside down to read what the "moon sees" and all the happen in the nighttime. The two sides have the same content but opposite of each other. For example, "the sun sees a sleeping owl" and "the moon sees a hooting owl". It shows what is awake during night and day time. The words and illustrations are clearly separated by top and bottom of the page as well as a block of color. I would recommend this book for story time and would suggest making the book flip a short lesson on what the sun and moon do when they switch. This book by Nancy Tafuri was a creative way to show children what happens during the day and what happens during the night. The first part of the book is about what the sun sees. Every page about the sun happened to start with the words, "The Sun sees." The sun is shown in the sky. The second part of the book is about what the moon sees. Every page about the moon also starts with the words, "The Moon sees." The book you have to flip around to be able to read once you reach what the moon sees. It is showing that the sun comes up and that the sun goes down and that the moon comes out shortly after. The illustrations in these pictures are great. It is a very colorful book. I really happen to like how almost every inch of every page is taken up with either color or a drawing. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
