This teen-authored book started out fairly conventionally as far as a humorous book goes but found its more sprightly voice once Jake got to Maryland and began attending his new school. Jake relies on his Rules of Awesomeness to cope with being the new kid ("When trying to impress a girl, it's best not to remind her how stupid you are."). It takes a few months but Jake finds a social group of sorts with the "Misfit Toys" and ends up best friends with the enigmatic and feared "Wild Boy." Marcionette was only 12 when he wrote this book and there is definitely promise as a funny-book writer. Fans of Wimpy Kid, Big Nate or The Terrible Two will enjoy this addition to the humor canon. Just Jake the first book is about a boy(Jake) and his family have to move to Maryland because of his parents jobs.. Jake at his school was good he had his place and was friends with everyone, but when he moves to Maryland he has no friends and no idea what this place is like. In the book Jake makes these cards of everyone in the school where he doesn't like people to know. But some bully takes them and shows it to everyone in the school, Everyone in the school loves them. Their is a kid named Michel that is shy and mean but he has a secret only the librarian and him know, but Michel doesn't know Jake knows. Later in the next book they become friends, when Jake gets their he turns the school upside down, everyone changes then. I give it 6 stars because it takes a middle school boys life and sense m in seventh grade, how Jake describes middle school it sounds a lot like it. I do Recommend this book to others mostly fifth graders because so they know what to expect, others such as middle schoolers should read it its a fun and good book. The book Just Jake it is interesting, because it is like my life bumps in the road but it always gets better. He has a weird collection of Kid Cards which are homemade cards showing special characteristics and representation. He is like me moves and has to find new friends while dealing with his older sibling. Then he finds one best friend and becomes popular over something he thought would ruin his life. Jake is a very nice guy and changes throughout the book. He goes from just judging Michael to being his best friend. This book didn't really have a good climax if any. The whole book was like rising and falling action. The book was very enjoyable though, it made it different than other books. I think Jake Marcionette hit a jackpot with this book and could be the next Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Anytime you can get my attention in a book it must be good, because I like reading but not all the time. This book drew me in like a bait. Anyone who knows about moving and starting fresh should read this book. Jake is destined to be popular. He just knows it because of his innate awesomeness. He is forced to move from Florida, where it is always awesome, to Maryland, which just plain sucks. This is his journal in which he describes his journey from uncool new kid to most popular kid in sixth grade. The illustrations are fun, and Jake's method of describing life is amusing. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

My opinion on this book is that it was good and the main character was the author and how Jake include the information on how a new student should be clear on what there day will be. When Jake said he was in a class full of kindergarteners my mind went start to how could someone mistaken something like that but Jake said in the book that there teacher and his had the same name so it was very confusing that for him but still why were the kids running in the halls I know teachers don’t like that. Another thing is that why would his sister be so mean really she could have been going through there move from where the were to know where they are. I think that through this book that some of the the information was Jake's background of his new school and how that sometimes thing can’t go the way you planned it may go south or maybe it will go according plan. This book was also very funny and had some very bad jokes but still it was good to read it when I have some free time in class. I don’t like chapter books but Just Jake made me feel confident to read short chapter books not long ones. ( )
