Horde’s mensen hebben me verteld dat ik dit boek echt moest lezen omdat het erg goed was, en nu ik het gelezen heb schaar ik me graag in hun gelederen en wil ik anderen aanraden het boek te lezen .
Wat eigenlijk nog belangrijker is, is dat het een heel goed geschreven boek is. De karakters gaan al heel snel echt voor je leven, zelfs degenen die alleen zijdelings genoemd worden. Je raakt gaandeweg steeds meer geboeid door de gebeurtenissen in de realifictie van Gaiman en wil ook weten hoe het afloopt met de verschillende figuren, waarbij het niet altijd loopt zoals je denkt.

Er zijn veel discussies geweest over welk label het beste bij dit boek past (horror, fantasy, speculative fiction) en dat begrijp ik wel want er zijn elementen uit al die stromingen aanwezig. De horror-elementen zijn niet bedoeld om bang te maken en de fantasy elementen laten zich uiteindelijk niet terug herleiden tot een strijd van goed tegen kwaad en het boek is niet makkelijk onder één noemer vast te zetten.
Wat eigenlijk nog belangrijker is, is dat het een heel goed geschreven boek is. De karakters gaan al heel snel echt voor je leven, zelfs degenen die alleen zijdelings genoemd worden. Je raakt gaandeweg steeds meer geboeid door de gebeurtenissen in de realifictie van Gaiman en wil ook weten hoe het afloopt met de verschillende figuren, waarbij het niet altijd loopt zoals je denkt.
