Fantasy. Fiction. Romance. Suspense. HTML:“The alpha author of paranormal romance” (Booklist) draws us back into her extraordinary Psy-Changeling world, a world torn between violence and peace, passion and ice...
Assassin. Soldier. Arrow. That is who Vasic is, who he will always be. His soul drenched in blood, his conscience heavy with the weight of all he’s done, he exists in the shadows, far from the hope his people can almost touch—if only they do not first drown in the murderous insanity of a lethal contagion. To stop the wave of death, Vasic must complete the simplest and most difficult mission of his life.
For if the Psy race is to survive, the empaths must wake…
Having rebuilt her life after medical “treatment” that violated her mind and sought to suffocate her abilities, Ivy should have run from the black-clad Arrow with eyes of winter frost. But Ivy Jane has never done what she should. Now, she’ll fight for her people, and for this Arrow who stands as her living shield, yet believes he is beyond redemption. But as the world turns to screaming crimson, even Ivy’s fierce will may not be enough to save Vasic from the cold darkness….

STILL going strong! This was a sweet one. Looking forward to Aden's story - wonder what kind of heroine he'll get??

Really Kinda hoping for a strong/silent heroine soon, though - I like watching (particularly changling) men help the tough ladies heal! ( )

Very good addition to the series. I typically prefer the stories based in the changling world but I do like the Arrows. It was nice to see Vasic get a story and I did like Ivy for him. Their romance was solid but I did feel like it happened rather suddenly. Their romance lacked a bit of an epic element for me which would have raised this book to 5 stars. Still it was very satisfying.

The overarching story moved along rapidly here. In fact I felt like it made more sense than usual. I generally have trouble with a construct which is no more than a bunch of minds linked up having it's own consciousness. But that was played down a bit here.

Sigh me up for the next one. ( )

Good book. The Empaths (Es) are awakening in the PsyNet, bringing hope into a dark landscape, but before they can get to a point that they're actually able to turn the tide of infection, they need the help of the Arrow Squad. Vasic, the de facto head of the Squad, finds himself in the position, for the first time in his life, to have something beautiful and life affirming with a lady named Ivy Jane.

Even though I found myself rolling eyes at the wounded male healed by female touch trope, in this case almost literally, since he ends up with an empath who is very tactile and refuses to let him go, I really enjoyed the interaction between the characters. They are well balanced and the chemistry between Vasic and Ivy Jane is good. What's more, they offer the rest of the Arrow Squad the first true hint that there was more to life than the brutality into and for which they'd been raised. The two groups counter balance each other, an almost perfect(?) match.

Little things niggled though. Ms. Singh tends to forget the intrigue in her story line. Even though this is a romance novel, she's also writing about a people who are under siege from changes outside their control and the fall of Silence (a way the Psy tried to deal with emotional control) has caused a number of dangerous groups to rise and fall. One is headed up by a psychopath/sociopath named Ming, a former leader whose activities led to his being ousted. He sends men after Vasic with a hypodermic full of a nasty drug called Jax (which amps up a Psy's abilities while suppressing their independence), a mission doomed to failure, because Vasic is that powerful/wonderful/fill in with your choice of description ... What annoyed me is that Ming, being the systematic meglomaniac he is would not have stopped at just one assault, yet, he just seems to drop off the grid in this book. >sigh ( )
