The hardest thing it to understand the concept of how old is millions of year old verses hundreds of thousands verse a few hundred. But I think that's something kids grasp over time with exposure to big numbers. ( ) This book begins with a tortoise who is old and proud of his age. But he is then accompanied by an iguana and they set off to see who and what is older than the 150 year old tortoise. It then explains how you can tell the age of each of the things visited in the book. At the end of the book a map is constructed to show the series of oldest to youngest things shown in the book. This is a great way to create a timeline of history and fit in information students may have to add to the timeline. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

If medals were awarded to animals for living a long time, then a giant tortoise would certainly win one. Some giant tortoises have lived for more than 150 years! Still, there are things on this planet much older than giant tortoises. Some of the giant sequoia trees that grow in California would be more than 3,000 years old. But the trees aren't that old compared to the Barringer Crater in Arizona--that was made about 49,000 years ago. And it's almost impossible to imagine that 65 million years ago, the T. rex dinosaur roamed this planet--but we have the skeletons to prove it! Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
