From his early days as a founding member of The Clash to his current success as a chiropractor and acupuncturist, the completely entertaining wisdom and life story of Terry Chimes An autobiography with a difference, this book covers the life of a man who appears to many to be a dual personality--surely the crazy muso bashing the drums in a succession of punk and heavy metal rock bands couldn't possibly be the same person as the one offering kind words of wisdom and compassion to the sick? Yet that is the unusual transition made by the author. Terry Chimes shares his story,  from his days as the original drummer of The Clash (he left the band in 1977 only to be asked back in 1982), on to a succession of punk and heavy metal bands, to becoming a highly successful chiropractor. Told with humor and empathy this memoir covers his childhood, his entry into the world of rock and roll, his early years with The Clash and why he left the band, and the spiritual insights that have guided his life. The book includes a wealth of true stories ranging from wild antics on the road with a touring rock band to the challenges of carving out an entirely new career.… (meer)

I received this book as an early review. Mr. Chimes tells us a little about his childhood, talks about his time as a musician and then his career switch to chiropractor. If you are looking for a tell all book with gossip about other musicians or fans, this is not a book for you. There are huge chunks of missing information so it is not an "everything you want to know" autobiography, however, it is enjoyable and entertaining. ( )

This book was given to me for an early review The book was not for me as it is told to an audience that cares about hard rock...not for me. I didn't know most of the names he referred to in his "clash" days. He leaves this part of his life and becomes a chiropractor which I found a little more interesting. ( )

An enjoyable, interesting read. The writing style is a little clumsy at times but that is understandable since the author is not a writer. It is not an autobiography with lots of nitty gritty detail which helps the story move forward, I also realised Mr Chimes was missing big chunks of his life out but of course, having this included may not have helped the narrative. It is not an autobiography where you find dirt on many of the rock stars he encountered in his career and this shows the integrity of Terry Chimes. Thank you.

I received this as an Early Reviewer book, and quite enjoyed reading it; it's an easy read. It's the story of a bloke who decided what he wanted and then worked to get it -- a career as a musician. That's the first part of the book. Then when he decided to change direction he worked at that too -- and earned a career as a chiropractor. That's the second part.
If you're looking for a no-holds-barred gossip-fest you will be sadly disappointed, but it was certainly interesting looking at the music industry from an insider's perspective. It was also interesting to find out how Terry ended up as a successful chiropractor rather than crashing and burning as so many of his fellow drummers did. ( )
