I would use this book for prediction practice and problem and solution identification. This is a story about a rooster named Ned. He wasn't doing his job of waking everyone up because he was sleeping in. The head chicken Daisy May, fired him and sent him to the woods. He hung out with the other animals until the new rooster who replaced Ned, forgot to close the barn door at night. He spots a snake going into the hen house and takes his job to save his chickens by waking them all up Summary: A rooster, Ned, sleep through the night and the morning. The chicken, Daisy Mae, was tired of the rooster not doing his job. She fired Ned and called to get a real rooster that would do his job of waking them up at dawn. Ned flew up into a tree and watched the other rooster “Cock-a-doodle-doo.” Ned stayed up in the tree for the night. He played games with some bats, danced with rabbits, and sang with some frogs. They were going to all play hind-a-go-seek and Ned was it, but he heard a noise. It was a snake that was heading for the henhouse. Ned gave a loud “Cock-a-doodle-doo” and woke up Daisy Mae. They chased away the snake and when they went back inside, they saw that the other rooster was sound asleep. Daisy Mae made Ned the “Head of Night Security.” Personal Experience: I have a family that goes to my church that has chickens and a rooster. I know what a rooster is supposed to do and I have seen chickens protect their eggs from harm. Classroom Extensions: 1. I would have my class make farm animals out of play-doe. Then we will write a little story using the characters that they made to act out the story. 2. I would have carpet time with my kids, together we would talk about how scary it would be to being attacked by a snake or other scary animals. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
