This is a brief introduction to Ralph Waldo Emerson for children. It is very well done, even though when I look at it, I think of Mr. Lincoln. There is nothing wrong with this book per se I just found it a tad bit boring. ( ) Intermediate. This book talks about the life of Ralph Waldo Emerson from when he was a boy, when he was in college, his writing career, when he got married and had a family, when their house burned down, when he decided to travel abroad, and finally when he returned home. He was famous for many writings and was an advocate for social reforms, and I personally had never heard of him before, so it may be good for your students to learn about him. Before Ralph Waldo Emerson was a great writer, he was a city boy who longed for the broad, open fields and deep, still woods of the country, and then a young man who treasured books, ideas, and people. When he grew up and set out in the world, he wondered, could he build a life around these things he loved? This moving biography--presented with Barbara Kerley and Edwin Fotheringham's inimitable grace and style--illustrates the rewards of a life well-lived, one built around personal passions: creativity and community, nature and friendship. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
