You can introduce multicultural books at an early age with this book. It shows that there are people who are different, but they are actually even more similar than they thought they were. In the end they become friends and really "blend'' together. ( ) There were purple people who only had purple things, blue people who only had blue things and green people who only had green things. The purple people decided they need more toys because there wasn't enough in purple and the blue people needed more food because there wasn't enough in blue but the green people said they didn't need anything because they were the best. Before they knew what happened they were at war with each other and they were all sad because they ruined their houses and broke toys and lost a lot of food. One child said "STOP! war is mean!". The others agreed and they worked together to rebuild what the war destroyed and became friends, combining their purple, blue and green things. I think this is a wonderful story because it was actually written by the children as a class project. They illustrated that even though people are different they are similar in more ways than they are different. They developed friendships with one another. Good classroom extensions could be an art project with the three colors purple, blue and green and then blending the colors together or they could build a story over a different subject much like this group of children have done. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
