By far the best Z I have ever seen in an alphabet book. Overall, it was fun and informative. This book was a good jazz up from the normal alphabet books. ( ) The Calypso Alphabet is a picture book that goes through the alphabet and assigns a word or thing for each letter. Almost all of the assigned things are Caribbean, some of them sayings, Such as “E is for eh-eh, a sound of surprise, and D is for doh-doh, Bedtime close those eyes”. These are phrases a Northern Westerner might not be familiar with, and so a glossary is included at the end of the book. The glossary says that eh-eh is “an exclaimation of amazement at a strange sight or happening” and that doh-doh is “a term for sleep used in the Caribbean’. The illustrations, by Jennifer Bent, are extremely colorful and warm, and have a good deal of texture to them. I loved all of the deep purples and warm yellows. I think children would respond very well to the illustrations. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
