Quickie Review- (May contain spoilers upon reading the review. Proceed at your own risk)

Forever Wicked is the first book in the 1001 Dark Nights. I have been wanting to work through these a bit more here. Forever Wicked is a story that I really had fun with. I love marriage in trouble setups and this one was very interesting. I enjoyed how the author had this hero pining after the heroine. I didn't really understand her motivations on why she was always pulling away. The hero has to really pull some alpha moves to get her to give them a second chance. We see a man that is determined to fight for his marriage and he does it so creatively. The interactions between her family and the hero was perfection. The romance was a great erotic romance theme. There are deep layers within these more sensual scenes where we see this couple learn to reconnect.

Overall I had a good time with this one and enjoyed this Shayla Black and definitely want to explore this series more. ( )

I haven't read the previous books in this series and it didn't affect my understanding at all. The book is sort of a second chance story but not a second chance at romance. Its a second chance for the hero to NOT make the mistakes of the past. Overall, the book is a bit predictable: famous rock star gets caught up in a tabloid nightmare story and decides to hide out in a nowhere town. What really saved this book for me was Bristol. She was a very well written character. Her sister stole her boyfriend and is now marrying him and everyone expects her to be happy and supportive about it. She experiences both frustration with her family and a desire to put it past her and make everyone happy. Jesse helps her out and no one deserves it more than her. If you are looking for a quick rockstar read this one fits the bill. ( )

Excuse me while I rant for a few minutes. This is one of those stories that rubbed me the wrong way from the first page. I understand that we all can’t like the same type of story all the time. It would become a dull world very quickly if that happened. That being said, I have a problem with someone supposedly loving someone, marrying them and then running off because one of the pair thinks the other couldn't possibly handle the crisis that has risen in that one’s family. If you could trust your partner to handle the good, the bad and the ugly of life why did your marry them in the first place.

Jason Denning is more than a little confused about families and loving a wife. He has had no examples of a stable loving family to draw from so yes his views are jaded at best. However there is no doubt in my mind that Jason loves and adores Gianna “Gia” Angelotti. He may be ruthless in business but he is a caring and compassionate man with Gia. He is protective and possessive and 100% Dom. He is also lost and confused about what happen to his marriage. I am not sure he went about reclaiming that marriage the right way but he did try. Jason is a new character to this series and a perfect addition to all the other alpha males that we, as readers, have met.

Gia is the one that I want to spank. She is so wrapped up in her family and what they need that she leaves Jason for a whole year. I am not sure she would have ever gone back to him if he hadn't forced the issue. She thinks he would run away from the responsibility of taking care of her family when her brother is murdered. She is afraid her parents won’t approve of Jason. In fact, she has even told them that she is married. She never told them that she was even dating. I guess that is Gia biggest problem is that she is afraid. She lets everything else become more important than her marriage. I was very disappointed in Gia.

Things do work out in the end and I mean almost the last few pages of the story. Jason realizes that yes he does love his life and she isn't after his money. Gia finally comes to her senses after a lot of soul searching.

This is a short story so there isn't a lot of time to establish a relationship between two people. Most of these stories have to have an established relationship in order to work in so short a book. Ms. Black does an adequate job of establishing the background of the characters that you get a good sense of who they are. She also packs the story with steaming hot love scenes. There is bondage and a good dose of Domination and submission. ( )

Spicy romance in the Dominance/submission style, otherwise a standard story of boy meets girl, they fall in love, problems from girls background pop up, girl leaves boy to go solve them on her own, boy hunts girl down and solves her problem to show how much he loves her. Happy ending. Adult language. Enjoyable quick read. ( )
