Majdnem 100 éves könyv, mely áttekinti a valaha volt és az akkor még létező, különböző típusú labirintusokat. Mivel nem tudtam, hogy ilyen régi, inkább történeti, mint tudományos munkáról van szó, ezért nem mondhatom, hogy erre számítottam.
A szerző nagyon alapos munkát végzett, százszámra ír és mutat be néha fényképpel, de inkább rajzokkal mindenféle mindenfelé létrehozott útvesztőt: ókori kőből készültet, félig-meddig természeteset, gyeptéglából, sövényből, kövekből "építettet", padlóra rajzolt, festett, kőből kirakott útvonalakat, templom díszítéseként, útjelzőként használtat. A bemutatáshoz időnként keletkezés és mondavilág is hozzátartozik.
Ami kevésbé tetszett, hogy a lexikális jellegű felsorolásból nekem túl sok volt - ezért az utolsó egyharmadot inkább csak átlapoztam -, olvastam volna inkább több történetet, a labirintusok felépítésbeli kategorizálást, a bejárással kapcsolatos stratégiát. Nyilván az nem a szerző hibája, hogy fényképből viszonylag kevés és nem túl jó minőségű fekete-fehér van csak a könyvben.
Tetszett az ókori egyiptomi labirintus bemutatása és Rosamund Clifford Henrik királlyal való afférjának története. Kedvet kaptam, hogy én is csináljak valahol nagyméretű útvesztőt, akár egy játszótéren.
