A simple tale of love and friendship to warm your heart
Award-winning author and designer Shaila Abdullah teams up with her 10-year-old daughter Aanyah to bring you this heartwarming tale of a little girl who forms a close bond with a child with cerebral palsy. The girl finds that through her art, she can reach her special friend Suhana.

"My Friend Suhana is a delightful read for a children's book. Very well illustrated with respect, friendship, and advocacy all in mind at the same time."

The story is about a girl who is friends with another girl named Suhana who has cerebral palsy. She describe how her and her mother help out at a special needs school. She also describes the things that Suhana likes and doesn't like. She also describes the reactions that Suhana has to different things and how it is almost like trying to learn Suhana's language. She learns to bridge this language gap by using colors to represent Suhana's moods. ( )

A friendship story of two little girls, one has cerebral palsy, and one does not. The main character is a caring and loving little girl who takes care of Suhana for one hour a week at the community center. She talks about her love and understanding of Suhana's disability.
This is a short and cute story that I would read to my students to help them to understand that we are all different, and we need to include everyone when we play and love everyone. This would be a great book to help students understand differences as it stays light, and the overall message is friendship and acceptance. ( )

This book is about a young girl named Suhana is has cerebral palsy, and her disability in mentioned throughout the book. A young girl s the narrator of this story, and she talks about her experience with having Suhana as her friend. The young girl starts off the story by saying that Suhana is not like any other girl that she knows. This story takes place in a community center, and is based on the perspective of the young girl and her experience with seeing Suhana at the community center once a week. Suhana is unable to walk, run, or jump, with her disability, and the young girl uses colors to describe Suhana's feelings. Young readers are able to understand from this story that it is acceptable to be different, and it is important to be open to inclusion. I would recommend this book to any teacher, and believe it should be placed in all classrooms, because it is a beneficial book to read to young students and have them be exposed to acceptance of disability at a young age. Essential discussions can stem from this book as well. ( )

Sweet story of a seven year old girl befriending another girl of the same age, Suhana, who has cerebral palsy. The little girl comes to love her new friend and connects with her through her drawings. She helps her, comforts her, and cheers her on as she is learning to walk. Includes facts about cerebral palsy appropriate for young audiences. Based on the experience of the younger author.
