Taking a bullet in the shoulder, she manages to escape and make her way to her half-sister Jane. Hidden away in the mountain fortress of the mysterious Dreagan Industries, Sammi finds more than a safe haven. Sammie goes on the run after having her partner killed and pub burned up by the mob. She runs to Draegan for help. Tristan is still in turmoil about who he isand waswas. After meeting Sammie, Tristan starts getting flashes of memory from his life as Duncan. She keeps running and he does the push me/pull you thing. More story arc is revealed and prep for future stories. Was just okay read for me.

4.5 Stars

This is the second full length book in the Dark Kings series, and (as I said before..) while I know that I should really go back and read the Warrior and Dark Sword books before I continue the series... after reading the novellas and the first story.. I just love these Dragon Kings way too much!!! This book was really good. I deducted .5 of a star because I had wished more for Sammi. Her character wasn't as interesting as I was expecting her to be. She seemed too normal, nothing really special.. other than she's not attracted to the Dark Fae.. but.. why?? that made me wish there was going to be a reason.. maybe it will get explained in the next few books. Tristan was good.. and I felt my lack of reading the previous warrior books.. a lot more in this book, due to the fact that Tristan was one... that said it was still a fun read and I am really looking forward to the next book.. don't want to spoil anything.. but I can't believe they just left her there!! Oh and I LOVE Balladyn! I know he's a Dark.. but I just really want him to have a story and perhaps get turned back to Light??? He's just got loads of potential I think!

Wounded after being shot by the attackers who destroyed her bar, the heroine is forced to go to her sister for help. There she meets the Dragon Kings and receives medical attention but she knows she has to leave asap before her enemies threaten her sister and her new family. She sneaks out in the early am but is followed by the hero who feels an instant connection to her. One night she discovers he's a dragon shifter and she becomes enraptured by him. Their romance is quick-really quick. And it's that night that they sleep together but when the heroine realizes that the hero has used his gift to betrayed her, she once again runs away only to be brought back. This story had nothing to it. No deep characterization, no emotional issues to deal with. Everything was grey. The hero is the reincarnated brother of the previous warrior series but doesn't remember his old life and is fighting his reconciliation with his twin brother. The heroine is just an idiot. She refuses to believe that Dark Fae are after her and are using her to get to the Kings instead thinks that the Mob is after her. Despite the fact that she has no money and nowhere to go and that she'll die without their protect, she uses every opportunity to run away to the village where she's tracked by Dark fae and needs to be saved. She's dull, insecure and blind to the fact that the hero feels such a deep bond for her. Though she sleeps with him and feels the bond between them, after it comes to light that he used his gift to protect her, she pushes him away reasoning that she's suddenly scared of being close to someone because of losing her mother. At no point before that did the author mention the heroine's insecurities, certainly not describing the connection and comfort she feels when with the hero. It was a book about nothing that really wanted to be something. It spent all it's time explaining the Dragon Kings and introducing every single warrior to the heroine. For Gods sake, not every single character needs to be in every single book! It makes everything muddled and boring. I liked the characters when they were together and I like the hero as a concept but it wasn't well written and bad plot lines made for a very lack luster read. ( )

Pub owner Sammie Miller finds herself running for her life when her business partner steals money from the mob and comes after them. Her partner never made it out of the bar before it was blown up. After some time on the run and nowhere else to go she finds herself visiting her sister Jane for some much needed rest. To try to keep Jane safe she keeps her troubles to herself and vows to get away from Dreagan as soon as she can. Tristan still can't remember his life as Duncan. He fits into his new life as a Dragon King and really doesn't want to remember his supposed past. As soon as he lays eyes on Sammie he is immediately protective of her and shortly after that he starts having flashes of his past life as Duncan. With all the emotions running through him all he wants to do is keep Sammie safe but she doesn't make it easy.

I have to admit that Sammie and Tristan were not my favorite couple so far but they still fit together nicely, their story was still fantastic and I like how they tie the Dragon Kings together with the Dark Warriors. It's nice to see most of the crew together in FIRE RISING. I could not imagine being in Tristan's position and I really felt like he handled everything as best he could. I am glad that he has a better understanding of who he is but the end and that he has Sammie by his side as he worked everything out.

On the romance side of things FIRE RISING was still hot hot hot. There is a normal amount of fighting feelings at times on both sides but both Sammie and Tristan know that they are falling fast for each other and sparks fly from pretty much the beginning.

I really like how the series is a continuous story conflict with their own plot lines drawn in. I have found that each story in the series is full of action and danger. I really love all the dragons and look forward to watching them each find their match as the series continues.
