I had no earthly idea what I was going to read when I picked up this book. The title was fun sounding, but, also a little over the top. I shouldn't have worried. The title was the title. While the book was a solid lesbian fiction novel that didn't go over the top. It's the story of Jill aka Friday and El that takes place in the small town of Princeton, Indiana. Friday is a line supervisor at a recently sold (to a Japanese car company) Truck factory. She meets El, and then gets thrown for a loop because El winds up being a a UAW union organizer. That puts some twists into their burgeoning relationship. And between Friday's hung ups and the truck factory wrenchesthat get thrown in, it was one of the most fraught lesfics I've read in a while, I was actually questioning whether or not there would be a happily ever after ending. I liked the first person narrative (from Friday's point of view) I haven't read something like that in a while Ithink. And all the characters. Wowza. They were all very very different, colorful, oh, and the dogs. Wow. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Jill Fryman (Friday to her friends) is a line supervisor at a truck manufacturing plant in a small southern Indiana town. Life on the assembly line is almost as predictable as her love life. When it comes to matters of the heart, Friday always seems to be making the wrong choices. Things go from bad to worse when El, a sultry labor organizer from the UAW, sweeps into town to unionize the plant right after it’s been bought out by a Japanese firm. Sparks fly on and off the line as Jill and El fight their growing attraction for each other against a backdrop of monster trucks, catfish dinners, Pork Day USA, and a bar called Hoosier Daddy. Everyone is stuck in a rut until something like the local plant being bought out shakes people out their complacency and see the opportunities offered by change. Likewise, El roars into Friday's life, forcing Frday to face her fears and grab for what she wants.
It was a mildly amusing listen, though I found the narrator's attempts to give what I assume to be a "bedroom" voice to El very annoying. And the way Friday's voice went soft when talking about El just made want to tell the narrator to resume her normal to The other characters were well done though. ( )
