This book is about a boy named Jay who travels with his family and friends to go to the pool and climb trees. the story ends with Jay saying good bye to his friend at night time. A rhyming story in which a boy faces big changes when his family moves from one house to another. The morning starts out "bad," with bad boxes being loaded into a bad truck by bad guys. But after a long drive to a new town, the boy meets a new kid and a friendship is formed, leading to a "good bye." I like the illustrations, but the sparse text just wasn't working for me. I respect what the author was trying to do, but I guess I needed a little more meat in a book about coping skills. The general feeling of moving (i.e., agony and resistance to curiosity and excitement) was portrayed well, though, so I think many kids in transition between homes would relate to this story. I can also see a parallel between the quick "movement" of the words and the physical movement of the narrator which can feel scary and sudden for most kids. I really enjoyed this book and the illustrations. The book is simple and easy for children to read, the rhyming words help the story go along and engage children in a way they can be able to read it on their own. It is about a little boy packing up and leaving home. When it comes time to having to say goodbye to everything he puts the word bad instead of good making it bad bye not a good bye. He realizes when getting to his new home that their are good byes as well. It is a good book to help children deal with moving and the emotions they are dealing with having to pack up and move to another home/place. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
