This book would be entertaining for Kindergarten students more towards the end of their first year. I loved the element of the story that the animals could understand each other, but it says "(If you'd been there, listening in, it would probably have sounded like this: "NAYcluckMOObaaNAYcluckMOObaa.") This would be fun book for read alouds. This is also somewhat of a concept book when at the end the boy gives the horse an apple: "A is for APPLE!", gives the sheep a biscuit, "B is for BISCUIT!". The hen got corn, "C is for CORN!", etc. Kindergarten students will enjoy this book and be able to relate to it. ( )

This book is about a little boy names Tommy who lives on a farm. Every morning Tommy goes and greets the animals with treats and talks to them. One day Tommy doesn't show up to greet them and the animals wonder where he could be. The dog then arrives and tells the animals that Tommy has went to a place called Kindergarten. Confused about this strange place the animals patiently await Tommys arrival later that day. When Tommy arrives, he tells the animals about Kindergarten and all the things he did that day. Tommy teaches the animals about the alphabet letters he learned at school that day and gets them excited to hear about what Tommy learned in Kindergarten the next day.

This book is about a boy, Tommy, who always visits his animals in the barn. He goes to see them every morning and talks to them and gives them treats. One day, however, Tommy does not come to see the animals. They spend the entire day confused about where he has gone off to, until the dog comes and tells them that Tommy has gone to Kindergarten. They wait for him to return, and when he does, he talks to the animals as always and gives them treats. He tells them about his day and discusses the letters he learned as well as songs and facts. When he goes to bed, the animals wonder what more he will teach them after his second day of kindergarten. ( )

I did like this book a lot. I think that it teaches a couple of things, such as different sounds for animals and also some words that are associated with the first couple of letters in the alphabet. I would read this to a classroom because of the lessons that if teaches. ( )

This is an excellent book to ease children into Kindergarten. The main character, Tommy, lives on a farm and takes care of his animals. This demonstrates responsibility, even though he is just a young boy. Tommy loves the animals, and the animals love Tommy, which young children can relate to by having pets of their own. When the animals discuss how Tommy never showed up one day, this relates to the scary feeling that many children may feel when learning they are going to Kindergarten. After Tommy comes home and is even more helpful and responsible to the animals by showing him what he learned in school, this is excellent for children to relate. This book allows children’s fears of going to Kindergarten to be vanished by seeing how happy everyone is in the end, and also that just because they are gone for a few hours, they will always return home and things will be the same, if not, better! The idea of school is put into a positive perspective, as in the end everyone is benefitting from Tommy going to school, because the animals are happy to learn what Tommy was taught throughout the school day.
