Jalna è una saga di cui ignoravo l'esistenza e che consta di ben 16 volumi che narrano 100 anni di storia di una famiglia canadese
Questo è il primo pubblicato ma cronologicamente sarebbe il 7° della vicenda in quanto l'autrice, lei stessa personaggio peculiare e particolare, oltre ai sequel ha creato anche dei prequel, campandoci per buona parte dell'età matura.

Lo stile non ha nulla di particolare e forse proprio per questo il libro scorre benissimo, una pagina via l'altra, come se te lo raccontassero a voce; molto belle le descrizioni della natura e delle stagioni, un po' superficiali quelle dei personaggi e del fluire dei loro pensieri ma forse proprio per questo la lettura avanza fluida, lasciando spazio e occasione alla propria fantasia e a ipotesi personali
In fondo è questo ciò che un romanzo deve fare

This is supposedly #7, but it was the first she wrote. Not exciting enough for me to want to read more. ( )

This is a book in a series I have wanted to read for a long time and now I wish I had done so sooner. The characters are so real and engaging and the story so intimate and gripping that it easy to become caught up in the world of the Whiteoaks. Great writing - I am really looking forward to the next story. ( )

Jalna is the story of the Whiteoak family at the time Grandmother Adeline is set to celebrate her 100th birthday. The tale of Adeline's children and grandchildren is most interesting and I hope to find more books in the telling of the Jalna/Whiteoak story. ( )
