2.5 stars rounded up. I kind of liked the heroine more as a side character than I liked her here, which is always a bit of a disappointment. She really wallowed in guilt over something that hadn't been her fault, and quite a bit of her worldliness was apparently just an act. Both of the characters were foolish at times, but hers really frustrated me. It made her seem like a reckless ninny. She was so willing to jump to conclusions even if it went against all other evidence. Pretty much the hero's defining characteristic is being an upstanding guy, so it seemed absurd for her to so quickly believe that everything he'd done had been a malicious falsity. And so late in the story! If they had just met then perhaps her trust issues could justify it, but after they've been together for a while, she should definitely have had a modicum of faith in him! Also some of their interactions in the last book were just skipped over in this one. I recently read the previous book, so I could mentally fill them in, but I would have definitely felt those gaps if I hadn't. That's sort of built in when multiple books share the same period of time, you're kind of damned if you rehash, and damned if you skip. (
