Puss manipulates others to get what he wants, but in this story he proves to be very helpful to his master, Jacques. He convinces the King of France and his daughter that Jacques is a man of worthy title, which is the total opposite of what he actually is. It pokes fun of the fact that royalty are portrayed, or at least in this book, as unintelligent. The King and his daughter just believe whatever comes out of Puss’s mouth and do not even question the fact that he is a talking cat. With a good amount of text, Puss in Boots allows readers to become immersed in the story. Upon opening the cover, colorful illustrations will surely draw the reader’s attention. To me, the message is to help others reach their goals. Puss is confident and Jacques is shy making this a story of two friends needing each other. Jacques deserves better than what he is given, so Puss is the extra boost that he needs in order to be happy. Before reading, I was not familiar with the tale of Puss in Boots. It was enjoyable to read due to the cartoon like bubbles within the illustrations, but I do not think it is an appropriate children’s book due to the fact that it conveys the message that lying to get what you want is okay. I would recommend this book for adults wanting to read some humor of the tale. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
