I have mixed feelings about this version of Puss in Boots. Puss manipulates others to get what he wants, but in this story he proves to be very helpful to his master, Jacques. He convinces the King of France and his daughter that Jacques is a man of worthy title, which is the total opposite of what he actually is. It pokes fun of the fact that royalty are portrayed, or at least in this book, as unintelligent. The King and his daughter just believe whatever comes out of Puss’s mouth and do not even question the fact that he is a talking cat. With a good amount of text, Puss in Boots allows readers to become immersed in the story. Upon opening the cover, colorful illustrations will surely draw the reader’s attention. To me, the message is to help others reach their goals. Puss is confident and Jacques is shy making this a story of two friends needing each other. Jacques deserves better than what he is given, so Puss is the extra boost that he needs in order to be happy. Before reading, I was not familiar with the tale of Puss in Boots. It was enjoyable to read due to the cartoon like bubbles within the illustrations, but I do not think it is an appropriate children’s book due to the fact that it conveys the message that lying to get what you want is okay. I would recommend this book for adults wanting to read some humor of the tale. ( )

Pretty interesting book. I liked the story of Puss here because he is very helpful and not at all deviant. There is a a bit of text, so it might be a slow read for a young student. ( )

A kitty cat with a plan. He manipulates other to do what he wants, will he get away with it? I think young readers would like this book because it is almost set up in a comic book layout, however, it still has a good amount of text in it. I feel it's a considerable book to have in your classroom.

This is a funny rendition of the fairy tale about a talking cat who wears boots and leads his boy along the path to success.

Nice version of Puss in Boots, with a satisfying version of the tale in sweeping language and interesting drawings. I find it frustrating that we don't hear how Puss in Boots convinces the people in the fields to say the Marquis of Carabas owns them, but you can't have everything. ( )
