For a few years, in some services, ships were not reckoned much for looks unless they crossed at least one skysail. One of the very last of all big sailing-ships crossed a main skysail yard. I like to think that sometimes in the Trades she ran up a triangular moonsail above it, for old time's sake, and for glory.
