A quick read, with a very interesting premise. I think this is a great choice for kids who liked Hunger Games or Legend, with a touch of romance, a feeling of real danger, and plenty of action. I liked the special powers element, and the re-written history, but I was less excited about the story's basic trajectory because it felt a bit familiar. I don't think that will be a problem for most of our teens tho, so it will be perfect to booktalk. It has a great hook! And a fantastic cover.

I just.. really wanted to like this book. Everything from the writing to the characters to the plot was painful, eye-roll worthy, and insanely stereotypical. This felt like lazy storytelling, and the drama and suspense (for such an awesome premise) did not deliver. I wish this was better, but it's not. ( )
