Narrator Ruddy McCann is a repo man with a murky past who has a vivid dream about a murder. Days later, a voice appears in his head and turns out to be the murder victim, Alan Lottner. Ruddy and Alan, after a bit of getting used to each other, figure out who killed Alan. The hard part is convincing the police to investigate without revealing how Ruddy knows. There is a fun cast of side characters. Becky is Ruddy’s sister, who runs their family-owned bar. Jimmy Growe, handsome but not bright, keeps cashing bad checks mysteriously being sent to him. Katie Lottner, Alan’s daughter and Ruddy’s love interest. Kermit, Becky’s boyfriend, who is always scheming. There are more quirky characters that help round out the story. In the end, Ruddy must take matters into his own hands to save Katie and himself. Luckily he has a plan. This was way more fun than I'd expected. He tells a great, wacky story with some excellent characters. I think I had expected the gimmick of the dead man's voice to wear a little thin after a while but the damaged Ruddy McCann is an excellent companion for his voice. Sure, it's a little implausible, but the writing is crisp and fun and worth suspending your disbelief for. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Ruddy McCann, former college football star, has experienced a seismic drop in popularity; he is now a full-time repo man in Kalkaska, Michigan and part-time bouncer at his sister's bar. His best friend is his low-energy Basset hound Jake, with whom he shares a simple life of stealing cars. Simple, that is, until Ruddy starts hearing a voice in his head. The voice introduces himself as Alan Lottner, a dead real estate agent. Ruddy isn't sure if Alan is real, or if he's losing his mind. To complicate matters, it turns out that Katie, the girl Ruddy has fallen for, is Katie Lottner--Alan's daughter. When Alan demands Ruddy find his murderers, Ruddy decides a voice in your head seeking vengeance is best ignored. He figures his efforts would be better spent helping his sister keep the bar afloat and wrapping up a particularly trying repo job. But it's hard to avoid the voice in his head, and soon Ruddy is trying to not only figure out what happened to Alan, but avoid the same fate for himself. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

Fun take on the haunting idea. Liked the fact that the "ghost" couldn't just read his thoughts. Not sure how I felt about lotner dying in ruddy' place. Romance was a bit questionable, even if she did feel bad about spitting on him, if she knew about the ring or just how suspicious his discovery of the body seemed, would she fall for him that quickly?liked the device of the ghost having control while Ruddy slept. Will certainly try another ( )
